Public Good Mapping Tools | All-Island Research Observatory

One of the issues, that I have struggled with in looking at both woodland and watercourse data is that the mapping formats are aimed at people with GIS experience.

I have not found an easy way to take ‘government’ mapping formats and drag/drop them into a more commonly used format like Google Maps or OpenStreetMaps

Simple example, there’s a shape file for all native Irish woodlands (created in 2003/2008 but it is the best we have), but there is no easy way to generate countywide lists of native woodland, or ‘show me native woodland within my 10k’ or overlay with deer/sheep density or do anything really … unless you have GIS skills (which most people don’t)
