Primary Discharge Point located in the townland of Castlemungret at Grid Ref: 153944E, 156252N and approx. 3.2km. downstream from Shannon Bridge, Limerick

Licence Reg. No. DO013-01

The plant is located south west of Limerick city centre at Bunlicky in County Limerick with the discharge to the Shannon Estuary.

Wastewater is pumped to the Bunlicky WWTP via the Corcanree and Mungret pumping stations. The WWTP has a stormwater storage capacity of -7,500m’ where, in high rainfall events, the excess effluent is retained and pumped back for treatment when conditions allow. If the levels remain high and cannot be treated in the UWWTP the tank overflows directly to the Shannon River via the Primary Discharge point. In certain high rainfall circumstances the Corcanree stormwater overflow (Sol) is activated.

The property went into receivership in 2017 and the ownership transferred from Herrata Ltd. to a new owner. Funding has been made available by the Department of Housing to carry out upgrading and connection works to connect Garden Village to the sewer mains. Wicklow County Council are engaging currently with Uisce Eireann on the final design, and once agreed Wicklow County Council will put the project out to tender.
