NPWS staff in the Kildare District , NPWS NE Region, became aware of development/works relating to forestry activity, carried out by Coillte Teo within the Natura 2000 site the Slieve Bloom Mountains SAC Site Code 00412, and within the Slieve Bloom Mountains SPA Site Code 004140 – and on land within a National Nature Reserve owned by the Minister. The works involved bulldozer/diggers excavating c 900m by 15m wide trench/firebreak. These works will result in permanent damage to the SAC/SPA and NNR. The resulting permanent loss of biodiversity, specifically Blanket Bog habitat and foraging area for Hen Harrier, is concerning.
