Coillte have never said that they have 30,000 ha on deep peat in need of restoration. They have said that they are proposing to ‘redesign’ 30,000 ha of their estate which is currently on deep peat.
Coillte has 232,000 ha of their estate on peat i.e. around 53% of the whole estate of 440,000 ha. 122,000 ha of the total 232,000 ha is deep peat. 122,000 ha comprises around 28% of the whole estate of 440,000 ha.
Coillte proposes ‘redesigning’ only around 24% of their deep peat for climate and ecological objectives.
