EPA WFD Significant Pressures Data (Update)

The ‘WFD Significant Pressures’ spreadsheet has been updated (https://gis.epa.ie/GetData/Download).

This data is from March 2022.

It contains pressures as used for the Draft RBMP which is currently out for consultation.

Fields have been added to aid the selection criteria.

All waterbody types are included.

Note: an additional field has been added that identifies whether an Extractive Industry Pressure is associated with Peat, Mines and Quarries or both.

Please note that there is ongoing work to align the data displayed on EPA Maps (https://gis.epa.ie/EPAMaps/) with the criteria used to populate this download.

However, these downloads reflect a point in time whereas EPA Maps will display the current situation.

Water Monitoring Stations

Water monitoring stations used by the EPA and Local Authorities are registered on EDEN Monitoring Data System by an application called the Feature Coding Tool (FCT). This tool applies a unique code to river, lake, transitional, coastal or groundwater stations registered on it.

Water Framework Directive Water Subcatchments

The EU Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) (WFD) establishes a framework for the protection, improvement and management of surface waters and groundwaters. The Subcatchment dataset is built on clusters of river water body polygons and are entirely contained within the Catchment polygons dataset. All Subcatchments are represented as polygons

Urban Waste Water Treatment Plant Locations

This is a point dataset of the waste water treatment plants in agglomerations (towns/cities) with a population equivalent of over 500 during 2006, 2007 and 2008, and were reported on and assessed for compliance under The Urban Waste Water Treatment Regulations, 2001 (S.I. No. 254 of 2001) and 2004 (S.I. 440 of 2004).
